Cardinals vs. Falcons 2012: Woeful offense wastes six Atlanta turnovers

The Falcons turned the ball over six times in their game against the Cardinals, but the Arizona offense was unable to make much of it.

Kevin C. Cox

The Arizona Cardinals came up short against the Atlanta Falcons, 23-19, falling to 4-6 in a close game. Arizona jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, but in the end they were outgained 354 yards to 178, and that proved to be too much to overcome. That offensive defect is what SB Nation's Cardinals blog Revenge of the Birds highlights in their detailed recap of the game:

Arizona was 2/16 on third down. Skelton was 2/7 for six yards before being benched, while Lindley finished 9-20 for 64 yards. LaRod Stephens-Howling ran for 127 yards on 22 carries and a score, but 113 of those were in the first half.

The Arizona defense managed five interceptions, but without an offense able to capitalize it didn't amount to anything. William Gay and Sam Acho also forced Atlanta fumbles, but only Acho's force was recovered by the Cardinals.

Arizona next faces the St. Louis Rams, who have a statistically middle-of-the-pack defense. They allow an average of 228.7 passing yards and 114.1 rush yards per game. That's followed by a game against the New York Jets, who post good numbers against the pass but have struggled to stop the run.
