Saints vs. Raiders, Week 11: Marcel Reece shines despite Oakland losing 38-17

There were few bright spots for the Raiders on Sunday, but tailback Marcel Reece was definitely one of them.

The Oakland Raiders were without star running back Darren McFadden in Week 11 due to an ankle injury. Despite not having McFadden against the Saints, backup tailback Marcel Reece managed to have a big game in a losing effort.

Reece was one of the few promising things the Raiders could take away from Sunday’s 38-17 loss. As SB Nation’s Raiders blog, Silver and Black Pride, noted in their game recap, the 27-year-old running back had a really nice game in the stat book.

The only bright spot for the Raiders was Marcel Reece who was essentially their entire offense. He had 193 yards from scrimmage on 103 yards rushing and 90 yards receiving. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry and 8.3 yards per touch.

Reece has made two starts now in McFadden’s absence and has rushed for 151 yards, although he’s yet to reach the end zone. He’s also hauled in 11 passes for 146 yards. His performances the past few weeks aren’t good enough to make people forget about McFadden, but at least he has assured the organization he is more than capable of being a quality No. 2 tailback moving forward.

The Raiders head to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals in Week 12. If McFadden is inactive again, look for Reece to have another strong game on the ground.
