Jamaal Charles injury: Chiefs RB tested for concussion

Charles said he was fine.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles went down after San Diego Chargers linebacker Donald Butler delivered a crushing blow to Charles' head/neck area in Thursday night's game. Charles exited the game midway through the fourth quarter and did not return.

The Chiefs called it a neck injury and Charles said after the game that he was tested for a concussion, according to the Kansas City Star.

“They said it wasn’t a concussion because I remembered everything,” Charles said, via the KC Star. “That’s very fine, because they would try to hold me out next week.”

Charles said after the game that he felt he could’ve gone back in. But that’s not a decision he would make. When it comes to head injuries, doctors make those decisions, not the player.

The Chiefs have 10 more days until they play again -- at Pittsburgh on Monday, Nov. 12.

Charles’ status likely won’t be fully known until the Chiefs run through practice next week. Playing without him would be a tough pill to swallow for a team that is already the worst in football.
