Bears vs. 49ers 2012: Chicago fans disappointed by lifeless performance in San Francisco

Chicago Bears fans were disappointed by the loss against the San Francicso 49ers.

It wasn’t a pleasant night for Chicago Bears fans, as their team was thoroughly dominated by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, losing 32-7.
The Bears were held to 143 total yards of offense and a pretty pedestrian 2.6 yards per play.
Chicago fans at Windy City Gridiron immediately came to one conclusion: They really missed not having Jay Cutler out there.

Question (for not the first time in the last three years): Is Jay Cutler the Bears most valuable player? A decent argument could be made of the affirmative.

Cutler was injured last week against the Houston Texans, and his concussion kept him out of Monday night’s contest against San Francisco. Jason Campbell had to step in, and he could not produce any meaningful offense, throwing only 107 yards while getting sacked six times. Campbell also threw two interceptions to set up two San Francisco field goals.

Additionally, there were other issues, particularly the weak play by the offensive line and the inability to handle Colin Kaepernick at any point. Here’s what David Taylor had to say about the loss.

I know they want to show that they’re not “one-dimensional”, but 2 catches on what 4 targets? Get the ball in your playmakers hands.

Offensive line was offensive. Good thing we upgraded our situational pass rusher. And for the record, I like McClellin, but damnit. It all starts in the trenches, and we showed (yet again), the source of our continual struggles.

Defense. Just a terrible job tonight. Terrible.

And can we please bench Hester on return duties. Even if it’s just for a game, to make a point. How many negative returns do we need to see before his current play overshadows his reputation.

Great game plan, and execution by the 49ers. Great win by the better team.
