NFL injury report: 49ers’ Alex Smith still feeling effects of concussion

The 49ers starting quarterback admitted after Monday night’s 32-7 victory over the Bears he’s still feeling effects of his concussion.

Cary Edmondson-US PRESSWIRE

San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Alex Smith watched his team, led by backup Colin Kaepernick, carve up the Chicago Bears, 32-7, on Monday Night Football, and the case could be the same next Sunday when San Francisco visits the New Orleans Saints (4:25 p.m. on FOX).

According to Eric Branch and Ann Killion of the San Francisco Chronicle, Smith admitted late Monday he's still feeling the effects from the concussion he suffered in last Sunday's 24-24 tie with the St. Louis Rams.

The latest development on Smith’s head injury is a bit conflicting from earlier reports that said the 49ers’ signal caller was close to starting Monday. He didn’t, and Kaepernick took over to lead the 49ers to their third win in four weeks.

Other NFC West injury new features...

The Seattle Seahawks have four players -- defensive end Greg Scruggs (oblique), defensive tackle Clinton McDonald (groin), linebacker K.J. Wright (concussion), tackle James Carpenter (concussion) -- questionable for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. None of these players played Nov. 11 against the New York Jets. Seattle is coming off a Week 11 bye.

St. Louis Rams safety Darian Stewart (knee) missed his second straight game Sunday against the Jets, and remains questionable heading into Sunday's meeting against the Arizona Cardinals.

It is expected Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells (turf toe) will make his return this Sunday against the Rams. Wells has yet to play this season, as he's been on the injured reserve list.

Meanwhile, defensive end Calais Campbell (calf) and tight end Todd Heap (knee) remain questionable. Both players were limited in practice and did not play this past week against the Atlanta Falcons.
