Alshon Jeffery injury: Bears rookie to have knee surgery, according to report

The Bears rookie wide receiver will be out for an undetermined period of time.

Thearon W. Henderson

Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery will have microscopic knee surgery on Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs. It hasn't yet been determined how long Jeffery will be out, but Biggs reports that it's possible he will return before the end of the season.

Jeffery hurt his knee in Monday night's loss to the San Francisco 49ers in which he caught two passes for 15 yards. It was Jeffery's first game since breaking his hand in Chicago's 41-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. So far on the season, Jeffery has caught 16 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

The injury further stretches the limits of a Bears passing game that has struggled with Jay Cutler out with a concussion. Jeffery was just four yards behind Devin Hester for second on the team in receiving yards despite having played four less games. With Jeffery out, the Bears will turn to Hester, Earl Bennett and tight end Kellen Davis to help support leading receiver Brandon Marshall.
