Mike Holmgren done as President of Browns

Mike Holmgren is expected to be removed as President of the Cleveland Browns on Monday following a Week 12 victory.

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

Despite watching his team pull off a thrilling win over Pittsburgh on Sunday, Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren will no longer remain in his current role going forward, according to a report by Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer.

The 64-year-old Holmgren has been tied to a number of other opportunities around the league, and was essentially forced out of his role by team CEO Joe Banner in recent months with the organization pushing for an overhaul. Though Holmgren’s time with the Browns was expected to end at the conclusion of the season anyway, it’s interesting that the team would make this decision right now following such an impressive victory on the field.

Holmgren will speak to the media on Monday to make things official, which should only help to set the rumors of a coaching job in Dallas or a possible move back to Seattle in motion. Holmgren compiled a meager 12-31 record as a coach and a 10-29 mark as team president while in Cleveland, but still holds a stellar 161-111 career record on the sidelines with three NFC titles to his credit.
