Facing an opportunity to set themselves up for a run at a playoff spot, the New Orleans Saints were unable to handle the San Francisco 49ers and backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a result that certainly disappointed the Saints' faithful.

The Saints’ 31-21 loss to the 49ers proves a chance squandered as all three teams ahead of the Saints in the NFC Wild Card hunt also lost.

Two offensive accomplishments — those of receiver Marques Colston and quarterback Drew Brees — were nice things to have on Sunday, but neither could make up for the feeling following a loss in a game that could have meant so much. Over at Canal Street Chronicles, the guys were hoping that the Saints would be more up to the challenge against the 49ers.
[The accomplishments] don’t mean much in the loss as the Saints came up short against a very good 49ers team in an important game that could have set the Saints up for a nice run right into the playoffs.
Attention was almost immediately turned the way of the NFC playoff hunt, where the Saints were fortunate to have all three teams ahead of them for the final NFC Wild Card spot lose. And with the Falcons on tap next weekend, there was no time to dwell on the loss.
While the Saints missed the chance to control their own destiny, at least they aren’t eliminated yet. ... We can all start breaking down this loss and then set it aside to get fired up for Falcons Hate!!!
