AFC East injury report: Julian Edelman concussed, Tebow has fractured ribs

Tim Tebow sat Thursday against the New England Patriots, as the Jets backup quarterback had a previously undisclosed rib fracture. Julian Edelman had to leave the game with a concussion.

Julian Edelman suffered an apparent concussion for the New England Patriots, while the New York Jets have injuries to a pair of wide receivers as well as backup quarterback Tim Tebow.

Although there were many calls for Tebow to replace Mark Sanchez, the third-year quarterback stayed sidelined as the team suffered a brutal 49-19 loss. Tebow said after the game he's been dealing with a pair fractured ribs, an injury suffered two weeks ago against the Seattle Seahawks, although Tebow didn't realize the extent of the injury until after the next game against the St. Louis Rams. Tebow, who has eight passes on the year, did not enter the game on offense or special teams. He remains the backup quarterback and was apparently ready to enter the game even if Greg McElroy had been hurt.

Edelman took a hard, illegal hit late on a route across the middle in the Thanksgiving game against the Jets, and did not return to the game. His status going forward is unclear as he'll need to undergo tests to determine whether he can play next week against the Miami Dolphins. The fourth-year receiver had a pair of touchdowns, one on a 56-yard pass from Tom Brady, the other a fluky fumble returned for a score on special teams.

Wide receivers Clyde Gates and Chaz Schilens both had head injuries for New York, meaning that by the end of the game Thursday all four of their wide receivers were dealing with some sort of injury as Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill entered the game on the injury report. Like Edelman, their status is unclear, but the team has a bye next week.

A pair of players left the game for the Buffalo Bills Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, backup defensive end Chris Kelsay, who had a neck injury, and fullback Corey McIntyre, who injured his right ankle, and neither returned.

For the most part, the Miami Dolphins were able to leave their game against the Seattle Seahawks without injury.
