The New Orleans Saints were down 17-0 in the second quarter of Thursday night's contest against the Atlanta Falcons and could never overcome both the Falcons and their own mistakes, losing 23-13 and falling to 5-7 overall, putting the postseason that much further away.
Saints vs. Falcons 2012: New Orleans’ play was ‘chock full of mental errors’ in loss to Atlanta
A Saints blogger reacts to a New Orleans loss in which the Saints couldn’t get out of their own way, resulting in a crucial 23-13 loss to the division-rival Falcons on Thursday night.

Dave Cariello of SB Nation’s Canal Street Chronicles said after the game that there really wasn’t much good to take from the loss:
I can’t really say anything else about this game right now. It sucks to lose to the Falcons. It sucks that the playoffs are now out of sight. It sucks that Brees’ streak is over. It all sucks.
Quarterback Drew Brees had one of his worst nights as a pro, throwing a career-high five interceptions and snapping his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass, as the Saints' lone touchdown came on a 1-yard run from Mark Ingram. Brees' record-breaking streak ends at 54 games.
In looking for bright spots, Cariello found two for New Orleans:
The play of the Saints defense and wide receiver Lance Moore (7 catches for 123 yards) are arguably the only positive to take away from this game.
With the loss, the Saints fell to 11th in the NFC playoff picture with a full Sunday slate of games still left to be decided.
