Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler received a $10,000 fine from the NFL for a taunting penalty he drew during the first quarter of a Week 12 victory against the Vikings, according to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. On the play, Cutler stiff-armed Vikings cornerback A.J. Jefferson and flipped the ball at him after he ran out of bounds.

The play drew a 15-yard penalty and Cutler expressed regret on Monday about the penalty:

On Monday, Cutler addressed the flipping incident on WMVP-AM 1000. “I’ve got to be smarter than that,” he said. “If anyone else on offense had done that I would have probably yelled at him like it can’t happen here. I can’t do it again obviously.”

Following the penalty, the drive for the Bears stalled and the team settled for a 47-yard field goal from Robbie Gould to take a 10-3 lead. The Bears went on to win the game, 28-10, to improve to an 8-3 record. Cutler finished the game 23-of-31 passing for 188 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

The game was Cutler's first back from injury, after he suffered a concussion during a Week 10 game against the Houston Texans.
