Giants can’t solve Steelers on Sunday

After some early struggles left them with a sub-.500 record, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won two in a row and now stand at 4-3. The New York Giants have won four straight, making them 6-2 and giving them the top spot in the NFC East. The Steeler defense, still limited by injury, will have to contend with Eli Manning and the Giants offense as the two teams face off on Sunday.

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has been ruled out for Week 9, his third consecutive absence and fifth from this season. Injuries to safety Ryan Clark and LaMarr Woodley may not keep them out of the game on Sunday, but they're unlikely to be playing at full speed. Clark sustained a concussion and Woodley suffered a hamstring injury in the team's Week 8 victory over the Washington Redskins.

The defending champion Giants are off to their typical hot start, but the trick for them will be avoiding the second half stumbles that troubled the team in 2009 and 2010. The Giants defense is giving up an average of 20.1 points per game, just a shade better than Pittsburgh’s 20.6. They’ve put together a stronger game on offense, where they’re averaging 29.3 points per game, compared to Pittsburgh’s 23.9.
