The Baltimore Ravens are beating the Cleveland Browns. This is not a story, as the Ravens have won eight straight meetings against the Browns, and Joe Flacco has never lost to Cleveland. But in the midst of the thrashing so far, there is a pretty nice story.
Bernard Pierce scores first NFL TD to put Ravens up, 14-0, on Browns
The former Temple Owl running back will now have a football to put on his mantle.
Rookie running back Bernard Pierce out of Temple (a positively presidential name) is getting some extra playing time as a change of pace for Ray Rice, who already has a touchdown today. The Ravens are running all over the Browns, and Pierce got the edge on his fourth carry for a 12-yard score.
Pierce was the 84th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and should be a nice complement to Rice as the year wears on, when rookie runners get more comfortable with the playbook and keep veterans fresh. In the first quarter alone, Baltimore had 86 rushing yards against a porous Cleveland rushing defense.
