Buccaneers vs. Raiders, Week 9: All Doug Martin on Sunday

SB Nation’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers blog reacts to the team’s victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday

Ezra Shaw

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to come away with their fourth victory on Sunday, the same number of wins the team had all of last season, beating the Oakland Raiders by the score of 42-32.

Tampa Bay trailed after the first quarter and entered halftime down three points, but it was the Doug Martin show after that. The rookie running back rushed for 251 yards while averaging 10 yards per carry while scoring four touchdowns against the Raiders, too.

While Martin completely dominated the game for Tampa Bay, quarterback Josh Freeman also played well, as the young quarterback passed for a pair of touchdowns and 247 yards on 30 pass attempts.

Sander Philipse of SB Nation’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers blog, Bucs Nation, put Martin’s performance record-breaking performance into perspective.

Martin became the first player in NFL history with three touchdown runs of 40 yards or more in one game (via Cecil Lammey), he joins Mike Anderson as the only player to ever rush for 250+ yards and four touchdowns in one game (via Randall Liu). Most impressively, he now leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage per game, racking up 130 yards per game.

The Buccaneers will look to extend their two-game winning streak next Sunday, when they host the visiting (4-4) San Diego Chargers.
