Bills-Patriots, Texans-Bears among most expensive ticket prices in Week 10

The Bills’ annual trip to Gillette Stadium is Week 10’s most expensive ticket, according to TiqIQ’s research of the secondary ticket market.

Week 10 brings us two big division clashes, along with some other matchups that should have a lot to say about playoff seeding. Our weekly look at the top-five priced NFL games continues with what should be five highly competitive matchups.

1. Bills @ Patriots - Sunday @ 1:00pm | Avg: $398 | Get-in: $130 | Weekly Trend: -15 percent

The Bills don’t sound like a major draw but the last time they faced New England the two combined for 80 points. In fact, the Pats and Bills have topped 65 total points in each of their last three meetings. Needless to say, fans know what they’re paying for with this matchup, and that tells you exactly why this is the Bills’ most expensive road game and New England’s second priciest home game.

Ticket prices for this game have been trending downward this week, but as of Wednesday tickets are still going for 19 percent more than the average price of Patriots tickets in Foxborough this season. They’re also currently 73 percent more expensive than when the Bills visited the Pats in 2011, and 82 percent more than their 2010 game at Gillette.

Tom Brady and points, lots of points -- that’s all anyone really cares about, right? But if you want to add a little hype to the mix, this game is huge for the division race. Buffalo is 3-5, but a win this week would pull them to 4-5 and make the Patriots 5-4. Suddenly the AFC East is wide open, and the Bills would have avoided the dreaded sweep.

The Patriots are still the likely winners here but history suggests this game will involve a lot of scoring.

2. Texans @ Bears - Sunday @ 8:20pm | Avg: $379 | Get-in: $160 | Weekly Trend: -15 percent

The Houston Texans and Chicago Bears both boast elite defenses and just one loss in 2012. Now the two mighty powers of the AFC and NFC finally clash. You don’t need much more explanation as to why this is Houston’s most expensive road game, along with Chicago’s fourth priciest home contest. In fact, I’m personally shocked it’s not higher for the Bears. Even more, I’m surprised this game didn’t take the cake as our No. 1 priced matchup this week.

Like the Pats game, ticket prices for this game are down 15 percent in the last seven days, but unlike the game in Foxborough this one is actually selling for 7 percent below the $409 average price for Bears tickets in Chicago this year.

This has all the trimmings of an epic battle on paper, but the best part about this game is that no one really has a clue which team holds the edge. Both teams are that close.

3. Raiders @ Ravens - Sunday @ 1:00pm | Avg: $378 | Get-in: $102 | Weekly Trend: +5 percent

You know Baltimore fans love their Ravens when a game against the lowly Raiders ranks third in our Week 10 list. In turn, Baltimore’s prowess has an impact on the Raiders’ own value, making this contest their priciest road game of 2012. At an average price of $378 per seat, ticket prices are currently 22 percent above the average price for Ravens tickets.

And it should be worth the price of admission. We’ve seen in recent weeks that the Raiders can put up points once they get the ball rolling (32 last week), and we also know that an injury-depleted Baltimore defense isn’t stopping teams like they used to. On the flipside, Oakland also gives up points like they’re samples at a grocery store.

4. Jets @ Seahawks - Sunday @ 4:25pm | Avg: $377 | Get-in: $120 | Weekly Trend: +13%

Seattle fans are clearly in full support of their Seahawks this season, and the 12th Man is alive and well. That will need to be the case when the Jets come to town.

With all the drama surrounding the Jets from Rex Ryan to Tim Tebow, it’s no surprise that the Jets coming to town helps make this Seattle’s third most expensive home game of the year - behind only games against the Packers and Patriots. At $377 per ticket, the price for this one is 46 percent above the average price for Seahawks tickets at CenturyLink in 2012. Prices are trending upward, so if you want to be there in person, now might be the time to buy.

This also happens to be a big one for the Jets, as it comes in as their highest priced road game of 2012.

5. Falcons @ Saints - Sunday @ 1:00pm | Avg: $360 | Get-in: $90 | Weekly Trend: +28%

Falcons and Saints fans are getting the best deal of the week, as they end the list at No. 5 despite having some of the most hype for their Week 10 game.

Obviously the Saints are routinely a huge draw at home, but after winning three of their last four, and facing an undefeated division rival, the hype is building. So it’s not a shock to see that ticket prices have gone up nearly 30 percent in the last week, making this rivalry showdown New Orleans’ second most expensive home game of 2012 (behind only a battle with the 49ers on November 25th). Fittingly, this game happens to be Atlanta’s most expensive home game of the year. With an average price of $360 per seat, prices for this game are selling for 32 percent above the average price for Saints tickets this year.
