Jets vs. Jaguars 2012: Loss to New York tough for Jacksonville fans to swallow

The Jaguars and the Jets entered Week 14 both facing serious questions about the condition of the franchise, but only the Jets left with the comfort of a win.

USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars had an uncommon opportunity in Week 14 when they faced a team struggling as much as they are. The New York Jets came to town, but Jacksonville failed to make the most of it and lost another home game, falling to 2-11 and 1-6 at Everbank Field. The Jaguar offense managed to out-gain Mark Sanchez and the occasionally hapless Jets offense, but Jacksonville couldn't convert the yards into points when it mattered.

SB Nation’s Jaguars blog Big Cat Country does a fine job exploring the feelings of Jaguars fans as they face a season that could become the worst in franchise history. In a report from the game, Alfie Crow writes:

The Jaguars are now just one loss away from tying the most losses in franchise history, set by the inaugural Jaguars team in 1995....At one point in the game sitting in the stands I said out loud “When is the last time Chad Henne completed a pass? Before halftime?” This was because from the middle of the second quarter until the fourth quarter touchdown drive, Chad Henne missed on 9 of 11 passes, including multiple series of quick three and outs without a completion. Henne was off much of the day, even when the receivers were open.

Henne finished the day 21-of-43 for 185 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Henne now has three games this season where he has as many or more interceptions than touchdowns, and four games where his completion rate was below 50 percent.

Week 14 will go down as a missed opportunity for Jacksonville. Unfortunately for Jags fans, it’s one of many in 2012. Big Cat Country has more coverage, so head over and join the conversation.
