Fred Jackson’s year is likely done, as the Buffalo Bills running back tore his MCL late in the team’s loss Sunday to the St. Louis Rams, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson likely won’t play again this year, as he reportedly tore his MCL Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

Jackson’s leg got caught between a pair of tacklers in the fourth quarter. The injury didn’t look good, according to coach Chan Gailey after the game, and Schefter reports that the injury was a tear that will likely end Jackson’s year.
Jackson has taken a little bit less than half of his team’s carries this season, with C.J. Spiller getting the majority. Spiller has been the more effective of the two, averaging an impressive 6.6 yards per carry, but Jackson has been modestly effective, gaining 437 yards on 115 carries with three touchdowns. Tashard Choice has been the third-stringer all year, although he had 91 yards against the Cleveland Browns when Jackson and Spiller were hurt earlier in the year. Jackson had missed two games with a sprained knee after the team’s opener.
Jackson has spent his entire career with Buffalo out of Coe College, going undrafted and taking a few years before making the NFL. He broke out with a 1,000-yard year in 2009 before 900-yard years the past two seasons, but was off his game a little bit in 2012, averaging only 3.8 yards per carry.
