Jason Garrett fired? Cowboys say it’s unlikely

The Cowboys’ executive vice president Stephen Jones said that the team will likely retain Jason Garrett as head coach regardless of how they finish the season.

While rumors have swirled all season long that Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett's job might be in jeopardy, the team's executive vice president Stephen Jones has no plans to fire his head coach, according to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News.

Jones appeared on Intentional Grounding on Wednesday night on 1310 The Ticket, and told the shows host, David Moore, that the Cowboys head coaching job will remain Garrett's regardless of how the rest of the team's season plays out.

Via The Dallas Morning News:

“I just think he’s done an outstanding job with this team. here has been adversity in this season. He’s handled it well. He’s never complained, never blinked. I know our guys play hard for him. I don’t believe anybody has refuted that. No one wants to win more games than Jason. I know he’s disappointed that we haven’t won more games, but at the same time, we do have a winning record right now. We’re in the hunt.”

The Cowboys (7-6) are in the hunt, but barely, as they currently sit in the No. 8 spot in the NFC playoff picture. They trail the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks by one game, and sit behind the Washington Redskins (7-6) because of a head-to-head tiebreaker. Dallas will close the season out with three tough matchups with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints and the Washington Redskins.
