The Kansas City Chiefs announced a move to place wide receiver Dwayne Bowe on the injured reserve Saturday after he suffered a ribs injury during a loss to the Browns in Week 14. The designation ends Bowe's 2012 season and could be the end of the former Pro Bowler's career with the Chiefs.

The 2007 first- round pick of the Chiefs is set to become a free agent in March 2013.

After receiving the franchise tag from the Chiefs during the 2012 offseason, Bowe did not agree to a long-term contract, leaving the 2007 first-round pick to become a free agent in March. It would cost the team more than $11 million guaranteed to give Bowe the franchise tag again in 2013.
Bowe finishes the 2012 season with 59 receptions for 801 yards and three touchdowns. No other player on the 2-11 Chiefs has recorded more than 400 yards receiving through the first 14 weeks of the season. Bowe recorded more than 1,000 yards receiving during both of the last two seasons as well as in 2008.
