Jets QB change is expected this week

The New York Jets are expected to start either Tim Tebow or Greg McElroy after Mark Sanchez’ four-interception performance in a loss to the Tennessee Titans Monday night that ended the team’s playoff hopes.

The New York Jets will likely change starting quarterbacks Week 16 against the San Diego Chargers after being eliminated from playoff contention Monday night, reports Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Rex Ryan has typically stood behind Mark Sanchez in postgame press conferences, despite the quarterback's poor performances. But after Monday night, Ryan said he wasn't ready to say who the team would start next week. Sanchez threw four picks and booted a snap on the only play of the team's final drive in the 14-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans, with most of the interceptions coming on forced, poorly thrown balls into heavy coverage. After a three-pick, no-touchdown outing two weeks ago against Arizona, he's now thrown 17 interceptions on the year against only 13 touchdowns.

It's unclear whether this means Ryan will go with Tim Tebow or Greg McElroy. Tebow has been Ryan's first choice as a backup all year, although McElroy played and led the team on a game-winning touchdown drive against the Cardinals while Tebow was out with a pair of fractured ribs. Both quarterbacks won national titles in college, but neither has had much opportunity with New York: Tebow was 0-1 Monday night in a brief appearance to give Tennessee a different look, while McElroy has only played once in two years with the team.
