Chiefs will hold moment of silence for domestic violence victims

In light of the death of Jovan Belcher and Kasandra Perkins, the Kansas City Chiefs will hold a moment of silence for the victims of domestic violence and their families prior to Sunday’s game.

US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas City Chiefs host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, just a day after the death of Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and the 22-year-old mother of Belcher's child, Kasandra Perkins. Prior to the game, the team has made the decision to hold a moment of silence for victims of domestic violence and their families. Via Greg Rosenthal of NFL.com:

The Kansas City Chiefs will have a moment of silence before Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers for all victims of domestic violence and their families, according to the Kansas City Star. No names will be mentioned.

Given that the circumstances surrounding the tragedy are still being investigated, the organization was trying to determine what was the best way to handle yesterday’s events prior to the game today, and did not make a decision until late this morning. Acknowledging the tragedy in a moment of silence only seems appropriate.

Belcher was an undrafted free agent signed by Kansas City in 2009. The 25-year-old linebacker played his college ball at Maine, and earned a starting spot in his rookie season in the NFL, making 44 total starts for the Chiefs in the last four seasons.
