Patriots vs. Jaguars game recap: New England claws back to beat Jacksonville

The Jaguars were in the game in the final seconds, but the Patriots closed it out for their 11th win of the season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars gave the New England Patriots quite the scare on Sunday.

The Jaguars opened up a 10-point lead early in the second quarter, but the Patriots erased it to fight back to earn a 23-16 win.

A Tom Brady touchdown pass to Danny Woodhead with 18 seconds left in the first half tied the game at 13-13 going into halftime. The touchdown pass extended Brady's streak of at least one touchdown pass per game to 47, which is the second-best mark in NFL history.

To celebrate Brady’s streak, Woodhead did ... this:

The Patriots added a field goal in the third quarter to go up, 16-13. Early in the fourth quarter, Brady found Wes Welker for a 2-yard touchdown pass. The score put the Patriots up, 23-13.

The Jaguars charged late in the fourth quarter, and a Josh Scobee field goal with 8:42 left in the fourth made it a one-score game.

The Jaguars made a late push, but on a 4th-and-goal play, Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne threw an interception to Patriots safety Patrick Chung. Rookie defensive end Chandler Jones hit Henne on his throw, allowing Chung to pick the ball off at the goal line.

The Jaguars got the ball back with less than a minute left, but Chung picked off a last-second pass in the endzone to secure the win.

Fantasy studs and duds

Welker was the standout for the Patriots’ offense. He caught 10 passes for 88 yards and a score. Brady wasn’t his usual self, however. He threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns, but he also had two picks.

Justin Blackmon had a good game for the Jags, catching seven passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Montell Owens rushed for just 42 yards on 10 carries.

Injury report

Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III left the game late with a head injury. Chung made a helmet-to-helmet hit in the middle of the field. He left the game and did not return.

Did they cover?

The Patriots were 14-point favorites, so they did not cover.
