Rex Ryan’s cloudy future with the Jets

According to a report, the Jets have not told Rex Ryan if he will return to the sidelines next season, but a source said that may not be the worst thing for him.

With the bottom having already fallen out of the New York Jets 2012 season, head coach Rex Ryan is reportedly not opposed to getting fired if owner Woody Johnson doesn't put money into making significant changes to the team's pitiful offense.

According to a report by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News on Friday, a team source said that unless Johnson absorbs and spends some money -- possibly beginning by parting ways with Tony Sparano and finding a new offensive coordinator -- Ryan believes it could be in his best interests to get fired and wash his hands of the entire mess in New York.

Ryan declined to comment for the story, according to the Daily News.

If Johnson were to decide not to make major moves and retain Ryan in the process, the report also says that the head coach would not resign his position with the team.

The article notes that Ryan has received no promises in regards to his future with the Jets, who end their season on the road Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

SB Nation’s Gang Green Nation points out that Ryan does bring quite a bit to the table on the defensive side of the ball.
