Eagles to fire Andy Reid, according to report

Two straight years of underachieving teams will reportedly lead to a pink slip for Andy Reid.

Alex Trautwig

The Philadelphia Eagles have fired head coach Andy Reid, according to Reuben Frank of Comcast Sports Philadelphia. The news does not come as a surprise, as the Eagles have missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons after assembling a self-proclaimed "Dream Team" of talented players on both sides of the ball. Philadelphia finished with a disappointing 4-12 record this year, after a strong finish to 2011 left some hope.

A subsequent report said that owner Jeff Lurie will officially announce the news at a Monday press conference.

Reid's final years in Philadelphia were tumultuous, but many will remember when he made the Eagles a dominant force in the NFC with quarterback Donovan McNabb at the helm. Reid guided the franchise to four-straight trips to the conference championship game, culminating in a trip to Super Bowl 39 and a narrow loss to the New England Patriots.

After 14 seasons in Philadelphia that made him the longest-tenured coach in the NFL before his firing, Reid leaves with a 130-93 record. He won six division titles in total, and reached the NFC championship game five times, four of which were losses.

This likely isn’t the last the NFL will see of Andy Reid. There will surely be some teams willing to hire a coach with a long track record of winning.
