Rob Gronkowski injury: Patriots TE cleared to play

The Patriots will get Rob Gronkowski back for the first time since he broke his forearm against the Colts.

The New England Patriots and their fans got good news on Sunday morning, as Rob Gronkowski will be active against the Miami Dolphins for the season finale, according to NFL Network's Albert Breer.

Gronkowski has been out for over a month since breaking his arm against the Indianapolis Colts on the extra-point team, leaving some question as to whether he could return in time for the playoffs.

The hulking tight end has 53 catches, 748 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season despite being out for five games with the forearm injury. Aaron Hernandez has stepped up admirably in Gronkowski's place, but the absence has still been noticeable.

Obviously this couldn't come at a better time for New England, which barring a Houston Texans or Denver Broncos loss, will be hosting a playoff game next Saturday or Sunday.

If both Denver and Houston win, or New England loses, the Patriots are guaranteed a wild-card round date with the Cincinnati Bengals at Gillette Stadium.
