Cowboys vs. Redskins, Week 17: ‘There will be playoff football in Washington’

The Washington Redskins will host a home playoff game for the first time since 1999, thanks to a pair of brilliant rookie season performances from Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris.

Rob Carr

The Washington Redskins needed a win Sunday night to clinch the NFC East and avoid missing the playoffs, and thanks to a brilliant performance from Alfred Morris - not to mention a not-so-brilliant performance by Tony Romo - they made it, winning 28-18 and reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2007.

Robert Griffin III wasn't the star, completing just half his passes for 100 yards, as Morris ran for 200 yards and three scores. The Redskins fed Morris the ball over and over, and the Cowboys had no answer for him, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. With their final stats, both Griffin and Morris led all rookies in a major category, Griffin in passing and Morris in rushing.

The crew over at Hogs Haven was obviously ecstatic, with Pete Volk running down the best moments of the night, although the his favorite one had to do more with the play of the Cowboys' star:

All three Tony Romo interceptions, each better than the one before it.

Next up for the Redskins are the Seattle Seahawks, also led by a rookie quarterback in Russell Westbrook. They come to Washington next Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
