The New York Jets will not fire Rex Ryan after a dismal season, as owner Woody Johnson announced that he'll retain the head coach while firing GM Mike Tannenbaum, according to Will Brinson of CBS Sports.

Rex Ryan will be kept on as head coach of the New York Jets while the team retools, firing general manager Mike Tannenbaum and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.

The Jets are moving on without Tannenbaum, as well as reportedly firing offensive coordinator Tony Sparano. But Ryan is apparently safe, and will be back in 2013 to coach the team.
Ryan wasn't exactly dealt the best card in 2012, given a team with a sub-par group of quarterbacks and two of his team's best players, all-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis and wide receiver Santonio Holmes, going down with season-ending injuries early. But Ryan didn't exactly handle the situation well, handling Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, and Greg McElroy in very strange fashion, sticking with Sanchez until it was too late before bypassing his second-stringer for his third-stringer. The defense, always Ryan's specialty, was just average.
In four years, Ryan is 34-30 as the Jets’ head coach. The team has made the AFC Championship Game twice, but has missed the playoffs in his past two seasons.
