Cam Newton and Jake Locker have early success

Two heavily-criticized quarterbacks had success early on Sunday.

The three-win Carolina Panthers and four-win Tennessee Titans haven't given their fans much to be excited about in 2012. Don't tell their sophomore starting QBs, however, who put on passing clinics on their teams' opening drives, finishing with perfect passer ratings and ending with touchdowns.

Hosting the Atlanta Falcons, Cam Newton finished his opening drive 5 for 5 for 48 yards, capping it off with a 25-yard touchdown to Greg Olsen. Olsen got behind the Falcons' safeties and was able to make a routine catch in the end zone. The Panthers caught Atlanta off guard with a varied offense featuring safe short-yardage throws punctuated with some shots down the field.

In Indianapolis, Jake Locker is having similar success. On the Titans' opening drive, Locker went 6 for 6, including an 18-yard touchdown throw to his tight end, Jared Cook. It appears wide receiver Kenny Britt could be in for a big day, already catching 3 passes for 35 yards early in the first quarter.
