Drew Stanton Might Ask For Trade Or Release After Tim Tebow Trade, According To Report

The New York Jets have Tim Tebow on its roster to be Wildcat quarterback, but even that might not be sitting well with Drew Stanton, who recently signed with the team to be Mark Sanchez's backup. Stanton is mulling the idea of asking for a trade or his release, according to the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.

Stanton signed with the Jets on March 16, picking up a one-year, $1.25 million deal, as he was under the impression that he would be the backup. However, on Wednesday night, general manager Mike Tannenbaum announced on a conference call that Tebow would be Sanchez’s backup (via the Star Ledger):

On the call, the GM made it a point to re-iterate Tebow’s place as the No. 2 quarterback behind starter Mark Sanchez. He said that roles would be clearly defined for Tebow as a backup and to have a hand in certain schemes at Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano’s discretion.

At that time, the Jets likely didn’t believe they had a chance to get Tebow, which allowed them to sell Stanton on being the backup. But now that he has been relegated to third on the depth chart, Stanton certainly is feeling wronged here, even though this all happened suddenly for him and the team.
