Bill Parcells hasn’t coached since 2006 and seemed happily retired before all this Bounty-Gate stuff happened in New Orleans.
Bill Parcells Favored to Become New Orleans Saints Coach for 2012 Season
Now, what started as a fun bit of speculation has turned into a serious matter. With Sean Payton facing a year-long suspension, his mentor has emerged as a legitimate favorite to coach his team during the 2012 season.
"Even as the NFL stated that Payton is welcome to appeal his one-year suspension, the groundswell of betting support has been behind Parcells," said Mike Pickett of OddsShark.com, SBNation’s lines provider.
"Now the position is -140 (or 5/7 odds) that he will serve as the interim coach."
Parcells has stated he will coach the team if his friend Payton asks him. Whether that happens is the source of several NFL prop odds, all involving Tuna, who has turned down several coaching gigs since leaving the Dallas Cowboys in 2006.
The Saints punishments have not sent them tumbling down the Super Bowl futures list, as most Vegas shops had them at 12/1 (down from 10/1 before the investigation revealed a bounty program to injure opposing players).
