While most of the NFL is intensely focused on the 2012 NFL draft, which gets underway Thursday night, teams are still adding and acquiring pieces via free agency. The New York Giants added to their menacing defensive line corps on Thursday when they announced the signing of defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. The stars of New York's defensive front are mostly their rush ends, and the Giants needed some depth on the interior. Via @Giants:

Rogers is a three-time Pro Bowler, but has not been a full-time starter for 16 games since 2008, when he was dominant with the Cleveland Browns.

He has started just five games over the past two years with the Browns and New Orleans Saints. Chris Canty and Linval Joseph were the only two experienced defensive tackles expected to return on the Giants' roster. The addition of Rogers also means the Giants are less likely to re-sign Rocky Bernard and Jimmy Kennedy, who are both free agents at the same position.

When healthy, Rogers is valuable as both a run stuffer and pass rusher, and can also be one of the league’s best at blocking field goals and PATs on special teams.
