The NFLPA conceded a lot of control to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the most recent collective bargaining agreement, and some players are regretting not doing more to curb that power.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Eric Winston spoke out against the way Goodell and the NFL have handled the New Orleans Saints 'Bountygate' suspensions on Monday, expressing his displeasure in an interview with USA Today.

“Obviously we don’t want Roger Goodell having absolute power. In a lot of this process, it seems like he does. It’s unfortunate. It seems like he’s running amok with it and deciding to do what he wants and it really doesn’t matter what the evidence says. Unfortunately, we don’t have an alternative option to appeal to.”

Winston goes on to say that the players attempted to do more to limit Goodell’s power in CBA negotiations last summer, but that they had to compromise on that issue to get a deal done. The appeal proceedings for the four players suspended in the Saints bounty investigation began on Monday, and no decision has been handed down yet.
