The Super Bowl XLVI-winning New York Giants visited with president Barack Obama at the White House on Friday, completing a longtime honor bestowed upon each season's Super Bowl champion. Obama praised the Giants for their improbable run to finish the season 9-7 and win the NFC East before going on the playoffs.

“The Giants took a whole bunch of hits this season, but they never went down,” Obama said. “From Day 1, they followed a simple model: Finish. Finish the play, finish the game, finish the season. And after Week 15, sitting at 7-7, they knew that every game was a playoff game. But the players, the coaches, the staff, the owners, they didn’t quit.”
After Obama spoke, head coach Tom Coughlin talked about how he hopes his team was able to inspire Americans "to believe in themselves, to never give up" and "to strive to accomplish their goals no matter how difficult their situation might be."
Justin Tuck and Eli Manning then presented Obama with a No. 44 Giants jersey. Coughlin, who was making his second visit to the White House after winning the Super Bowl with New York in 2007, closed his speech by saying to Obama, "I hope this is not a twice-in-a-lifetime experience. We both have a goal to get back here next year."
