The Miami Dolphins have a classic logo: simply a dolphin in a helmet. This has been the team's logo for decades, but apparently the team is considering giving its helmet a refresh.
Dolphins Fishing For A New Logo
The Miami Dolphins have been in discussions with the NFL league office for a “fresh new look” with their logo.
According to a report out of the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins have been in talks to “freshen up” their logo.
A source at league headquarters told the Post that the Dolphins and NFL have been trading emails for several weeks, with various mock-ups of a new Dolphins logo being designed and tweaked by the two sides. Dolphins CEO Mike Dee said Thursday night that "it's not 100 percent that we're going to make a change," but that the team has gotten feedback from the fans and is looking to "freshen up" the logo, which has been in its current form since 1997.
The team has updated their logo once before, modernizing the original 1966 logo in 1997, but the gist of the logo was kept in tact and made just more to look like an actual dolphin than some scratchy turquoise paint.
“We’re not talking about changing colors or taking the sun off the helmet. It’s not going to be like when Tampa Bay changed from orange to pewter gray,” Dolphins CEO Mike Dee told the Palm Beach Post. “It’s definitely keeping one eye on what’s traditional in the logo intact, while keeping one eye on a 21st century version of that.”
I wonder if modern helmet technology can allow the Dolphins to have an animated LED logo. If so, I have an idea ...
