Just recently the NFL owners voted to change the NFL’s official blackout rule, which previous required teams to sell out their general bowl. The new rule will now allow teams to reduce their ticket threshold for blackouts to 85 percent of the general bowl, but there is a catch.
Buccaneers Utilize New Blackout Rules
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced they will utilize the new NFL blackout rule and reduce their blackout threshold to 85 percent.
If a team does reduce their blackout threshold, any tickets sold past the set number will see 50 percent of the profit sent to the away team.
This deterrence will ward off some teams, as the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers, and Buffalo Bills have all announced they will not lower their blackout numbers for the 2012 NFL season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers however, have announced they will utilize this new rule and drop their threshold to 85 percent.
“We hope that this move, along with lower ticket prices, starting at $30 for adults and $15 for children, will lead to more televised Buccaneer home games this year,” Vice President of Business Administration Brian Ford said in a statement.
The Bucs saw all of their games blacked out during the 2011 season as their attendance took a nosedive.
