Max Starks has signed a one-year contract to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to reports. Starks suffered a knee injury in January that at one point was thought to be career-threatening. The veteran tackle will play his ninth season with the NFL after being drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Starks was released by the Steelers in July, 2011, but later re-signed in October for the 2011-12 season. Still the move indicated that the team might be ready to move on from the lineman. Starks started at left tackle last season, but did so in place of the injured Marcus Gilbert. Once healthy, Starks should once again serve a backup capacity this season.
