It's been a bad summer for Aaron Berry, who was just released by the Detroit Lions. In June, Berry was arrested for DUI and in July he was arrested on three counts of simple assault, an incident that reportedly involved a firearm. The Lions have done what many in Detroit have been asking them to do -- released Berry.

The news had to be expected if you’d been paying attention in Detroit. Columnist Bob Wojnowski wrote this lede on Monday after the arrest:
Detroit -- It’s not about making a statement. At this stage, it’s about punishing irresponsibility and noxious stupidity.
And that’s what they did with Berry. One arrest is bad enough. Two shows a pattern and left the Lions with few other choices. This was the right move.
The Lions, though, are creating an unfortunate image. Berry’s latest arrest is the seventh this offseason for the team.
