Falcons Release Lofa Tatupu After Season-Ending Injury

The Falcons' brief tenure as Lofa Tatupu's employer lasted just more than four months, with Atlanta releasing the former Seahawks linebacker Wednesday after signing him in March. Tatupu sustained a season-ending shoulder injury during a recent workout and, rather than place him on the physically unable to perform or injured reserve list, the Falcons chose to cut ties.

Tatupu received a $600,000 signing bonus in March, but will not be owed any more of the two-year, $3.6 million deal he signed.

Tatupu chose not to play in the NFL in 2011 after being released by Seattle in July, but played in every game of the 2010 season for the Seahawks. At 29, he is five years removed from being named a first-team All-Pro after the 2007 season, and had not made the Pro Bowl since 2007 after making it in each of his first three years in the NFL.
