Jahvid Best Not Cleared By Detroit Lions Yet

Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best suffered a concussion last season that forced him onto the injured reserve list. The Lions are reporting for training camp on Thursday, but Best has not been cleared to get back on to the football field yet.

The plan, according to Chris McCosky, is for team doctors to test Best on Friday, and he could be cleared for contact. Best’s concussion symptoms were so bad at one point that the young running back had considered retiring from football.

Best had nearly 400 rushing yards in six starts for the Lions last season with nearly 300 receiving yards and was coming off a spectacular performance against the Chicago Bears before he suffered a concussion the next week against the San Francisco 49ers.

Running back depth is an issue for the Lions entering 2012, so getting Best healthy and on the football field can be a big boost for the team.
