As teams begin breaking training camp, they also begin to do some really odd things. The Cincinnati Bengals, for instance, have decided to ban Twitter for their players at least through the duration of camp.

“I’ll let those guys decide as we go,” Marvin Lewis told reporters when asked if the ban would go beyond training camp.

Lewis made the decision after reportedly consulting some of the veteran players on the team. There was some belief that part of the reason for the ban came on the heels of rookie cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick confirming on Twitter the injury he suffered prior to training camp.

“I think people have to have the maturity and wherewithal to be able to handle it,” Lewis said after the announcement. “I don’t see how tweeting is going to help us win a football game. So it’s part of being selfless right now. It’s not best for our football team to be involved in that. It’s best that we just take care of ourselves and not announce what we’re doing or not doing, or who did this or who did that, and commenting on what’s going on in other spots. Let’s be football players.”
