There has been plenty of action off the field in Cleveland recently with the sale of the franchise, but the Browns will turn the attention back to the field Friday as they begin preseason play against the Detroit Lions.

The Lions and Browns open preseason play Friday in what will be the NFL debut of Brandon Weeden
The game will be the debut of new Browns starting quarterback Brandon Weeden. Cleveland selected Weeden with the No. 22 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and officially named him the starting quarterback earlier this week. The 28-year-old Weeden will be without his backfield mate Trent Richardson. Minor knee surgery is expected to keep Richardson out of the preseason.
The Lions open preseason play fresh off their first postseason berth in 12 seasons. Matthew Stafford is coming off a season in which he threw for more than 5,000 yards while Calvin Johnson will try to improve on a season where he caught 96 passes for 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns.
