Jeff Demps Reaches Agreement With Patriots, According To Report

News of Demps signing with the Patriots leaked out Friday morning, but his agent pushed back on initial reports.

Demps, formerly with the Florida Gators, focused his attention on the Olympics, where he won a silver medal as part of the U.S. 4x100-meter relay team, instead of the NFL Draft, where he could’ve been a late round pick. Eagles Could Pursue Jeff Demps

Demps stands just 5-foot-7, weighs 190 pounds and projects to be a third-down back and possibly a kickoff/punt returner in the NFL. If he signs with a team, Demps will make more money than most professional track and field athletes. He would also be an interesting addition to the Eagles’ squad.

Demps’ agent tells The Associated Press that Demps will make a decision on his NFL future by Thursday night.

Bucs Reportedly Interested In Jeff Demps, Olympic Star

According to Reynolds, the Buccaneers were close to signing Demps after the former University of Florida star failed to qualify for the 100-meter dash at the U.S. Olympic Trials, but Demps was named to the 4x100 meter relay team after Mike Rodgers sustained a stress fracture in July. Demps ran in the prelims and helped break a 20-year American Record in the event, with the group running a 37.38.

The Buccaneers would utilize Demps’ world class speed, lining him up as a slot receiver and a running back on offense while also being used on special teams as a kick returner.
