Lions RB Jahvid Best Weeks From Return

Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best is not going to be joining his team on the field at training camp in the immediate future. The third-year player continues to recover from a serious concussion sustained last season. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz delivered a pessimistic assessment to the media following Thursday morning's practice.

Best said earlier in the week that he was not experiencing post-concussion symptoms. The team is subjecting him to regular tests to monitor his recovery from the concussion he suffered last October.

Without Best on the field, Kevin Smith will be on top of the depth chart at running back. Injuries limited Smith to just seven games last season, and have weighed on his career since a strong rookie debut in 2008. Second-year running back Mikel Leshoure is dealing with a hamstring injury early in camp and is facing a two-game suspension to start the season for a pair of marijuana-related arrests during the offseason.
