Ryan Tannehill will be the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin announced on Monday. In announcing the news, Philbin said that "this is the best decision we can make at the given time."
Ryan Tannehill Named Miami Dolphins Starting QB
Tannehill won the job in a competition with Matt Moore, who started for the Dolphins last year. David Garrard was injured which knocked him out of the competition.
Tannehill has taken plenty of snaps in the preseason. In his first game, Tannehill went 14-for-21 for 167 yards and a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his second game, his first start of his NFL career, Tannehill dropped off a little bit, completing 11-for-23 passes for 100 yards. Matt Moore, by contrast, completed just 5 of 15 passes for 57 yards.
Philbin ensured reporters that this was a true “open competition” for the starting job. The Dolphins made Tannehill the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
