Trent Richardson Injury: Week 1 Is The Target

Trent Richardson is targeting a return for the first week of the NFL's regular season. The rookie running back underwent arthroscopic knee surgery early in training camp for a bothersome left knee that was originally projected to keep him out of the Cleveland Browns' regular season debut.

Richardson isn’t guaranteed to return for the first week of the regular season, of course, but team president Mike Holmgren said Wednesday that that’s the target they’re currently shooting for with his return.

“If it goes according to schedule and there are no setbacks, there’s a chance he could be ready to play in the first game,” Holmgren said. “As a coaching staff and as an organization you have to be really smart in how you do that. As much as we’d all love to see him play, and are looking forward to him playing, we can’t rush him back in before he’s ready.”

The sooner the better when it comes to Richardson, obviously, as he’s expected to begin his career as one of his team’s top offensive options.
