Not only will Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Colt McCoy not play when the regular season starts, he won't play our media-infused QB controversies, either.
Colt McCoy On QB Controversies: ‘I’m Not Playing Those Games’
Cleveland Browns now-backup QB Colt McCoy shrugs off any controversy.
McCoy shrugged off any such controversy surrounding his situation with rookie starter Brandon Weeden in an interview with 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland on Thursday.
“My mindset, my focus, has just been on coming out here and working, getting better, spending a lot of time getting mental reps after practice — watching tape, studying the guys. I think the receivers are playing faster. Last week was evidence that our run game has picked up a lot. So, there’s a lot of positives on offense that are really starting to come together, and obviously, when Trent gets back, that’s going to help a lot, too. As far as controversy goes, I’m not playing those games. I’m just coming out here and doing the best I can to make myself the best player I can be for the Browns.”
In addition to touching on his injured shoulder and being mentored by Jake Delhomme, McCoy reiterated he wants to stay in Cleveland even if it's as a backup.
“I got drafted here and I want to be here. I gave two years with the same guys in that locker room. We’ve been through a lot together and I want to see it through. I want to see us winning football games for this organization, for our fans. We’ve been through a lot and you can’t see the future, but as far as what we’re doing right now, the future’s bright and I’m excited about it and I want to be here to see what happens. I’d love to play, but we’ll cross that bridge if it ever happens.”
