Cornerback Kevin Barnes has been traded from Washington Redskins to the Detroit Lions, the Washington Examiners' John Keim is reporting. The news comes after many media outlets, including Barnes himself, were informed he was released from the Skins', who in the last hour worked out a deal with the Lions, who have not released the details.

The trade sends Barnes to Detroit, which reportedly wants to use the former Maryland Terrapin as possible option at right cornerback. Last season, Barnes (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) was used as a nickel corner and this season was competing for an outside corner back position this season. However, Barnes lost the position battled to seven-year veteran Cedric Griffin.

In three season with Washington, Barnes compiled 45 tackles and three interceptions. Last season, Barnes had 26 tackles and two interceptions.
