The New York Jets already had depth concerns at wide receiver, but those concerns may have grown Saturday, as No. 1 receiver Santonio Holmes likely suffered a broken rib during practice, according to a report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

According to Mehta, the injury occurred during practice when Holmes took a direct hit to the ribs. Jets medical personnel later told head coach Rex Ryan that it looks like Holmes broke a rib.

The trainers gave Ryan a good indication of the diagnosis.
“He got hit in the ribs, made that real nice catch (and) converted that third down, but there’s some concern that he may have broke a rib,” Ryan said. “He’s a tough guy. But I don’t think he’s going to be running out there tomorrow or the next day. But we’ll have to see.”

The severity of the injury and a possible timetable for a return are still unknown.
