Chicago Bears Sign RB Kahlil Bell

The Chicago Bears have signed running back Kahlil Bell, who announced the signing via twitter.

Bell originally signed with Chicago in 2009 after being waived by the Minnesota Vikings, who had signed him as an undrafted free agent.

Promoted from the Bears' practice squad in 2009 after an injury to Garrett Wolfe, Bell played in seven games that season, rushing for 220 yards on 40 carries. He did not see action in the NFL again until the 2011 season. He appeared in 13 games that season, including as the starter in Weeks 16 and 17 after injuries to Matt Forte and Marion Barber. In the 2011 season he had 79 carries for 337 yards, with no touchdowns and one fumble lost.

Bell signed with the Bears for the 2012 season, signing a one-year contract for $1.26 million. The Bears asked if that could be reduced to $700,000, and waived Bell when he refused. With Matt Forte sustaining a high ankle sprain, Chicago saw enough value in Bell to welcome him back. Terms of the deal were not reported.
