The New England Patriots are hard to beat anywhere, and they've been especially hard to beat at home. They' are even harder to beat when opening the season at Gillette Stadium, but Sunday's 20-18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals ended the league's longest winning streak in home openers and was the first loss in a home opener since the stadium opened.
Patriots’ First Home Opener Loss In Gillette Stadium History
Gillette Stadium opened in 2002, and since then, the Patriots had opened their home season with a win in Foxboro in all 10 of their season debuts. When Stephen Gostkowski's kick sailed wide, the team's record in openers at the stadium went to 10-1. The Pats still have a historic home field advantage - Tom Brady holds the record for most consecutive wins at home by a quarterback - but they can no longer lay claim to a perfect record kicking off the season in their own stadium.
